SkyGuider Pro Polar Scope Viewfinder Adapter

Dec 20, 2018 | Equipment, Polar Viewfinder

There are few times when someone thinks of a good idea, then acts on it, then makes it available to others. Philippe Leca has done this!

When using the iOptron SkyGuider Pro, I found it difficult to do accurate polar alignment, because when the camera is at the right height, the polar scope, is too low to conveniently look through. I am about 6 feet 3 inches tall (1.9m) and I would have to bend over or kneel on the cold cement. I found myself giving up on the “perfect” alignment as it was a pain in the neck.

After a lot of searching, looking and researching I couldn’t believe that a right angle view finder didn’t exist. Finally I landed on Philppe’s website, http://www.astrokraken.fr/ and it has a number of 3D printed products for the Astrophotography enthusiast.

My favorite is the polar scope adapter, this has allowed me to EASILY and conveniently fine tune my polar alignment.

This adapter couples the Neewer Perfect 1x-2.5x Right Angle Viewfinder to the iOptron SkyGuider Pro. It has taken one of the inconveniences out of my astrophotography sessions.

He makes them in standard black, and a glow-in-the-dark green. I chose the glow-in-the-dark version. I am not sure how long it glows, but it does glow. This photo was taken after “charging” it with my phone flashlight.

Because the Neewer Right Angle Viewfinder rotates, you can use it off to the side. This helps you nail that perfect polar alignment.

The goal of this site is to help make it easier to find such products.

I reached out to Philippe and made sure it was OK to link to his site and post this. He quickly responded with permission. Thanks Philippe!

Please take the time to visit Philippe’s site, http://www.astrokraken.fr/

Nearly 6 weeks of clouds (or near full moon) has not been great, but looking forward to more sessions soon.
